Here's the buzz in Room 305!
WELCOME BACK!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and a Happy Holiday!
Thank you so much to Jacki Beebe and all the parent helpers for our winter celebration.
Winter is here and the weather is wonderful. January is a great month in Kindergarten. The children will be experiencing all strands of the curriculum through our core curriculum and thematic units such as winter, night, animals and bugs.!
In class we are working on letter recognition/sounds, word blending, rhyme and word patterns as well as picture clues, sentence fluency and comprehension. In math we are working on number sense, patterning, geometry, measurement and data analysis.
The Kindergarten homework is designed to reinforce these skills. Students gain a sense of responsibility and get into the habit of doing homework. Your child gains a positive attitude and desire to learn when his/her parents are involved in the learning process.
I am sending 2 copies of the homework calendar home. One copy is for you to keep at home. Please encourage your child to do all 3 parts: reading, poetry work and the daily task. The other copy must stay in your child's folder and parents need to initial the corner of each daily box when that day's homework has been completed. Students will not receive their daily reward stamp if homework is not done. The Coyote paw reading log will also be attached to the homework calendar. When you have filled out the entire log return it to me and I will send you a new one. Your child can earn additional incentives. At the end of the year there will be a dunk tank with the principal and teachers to dunk. Students reaching their year end goal of 40 hours reading time will be able to participate. December 20 students reaching 20 hours of reading time were able to throw water balloons at me. Several students participated. Needless to say, I was very wet!
Keep up the great work and read, read, read.
